Creating a Performance Band

A default performance band is applied to each assessment in Classify Learning.  Below is an example.  This help document will guide you through the process of creating a new performance band to be used on a particular assessment.

Note:  School districts that purchase Classify Learning have the option of updating this default performance band to match district initiatives.  Reach out to your customer success manager for more information on updating the default performance band for your school district.

To create a new performance band that can be applied to an assessment:

  1. Click on the dropdown arrow next to the Assessments tab.
  2. Click Performance Bands

Once your are on the performance band page, click on the Create Performance Band button to start creating a new performance band.

The window below lets you create your new performance band:

  1. Name: give a descriptive name for your performance band. This will help users identify a performance or search based off the performance band name.
  2. Access Level: for most users, this is locked to Private access level only, but other district level accounts are able to make performance bands available to other users within their district.
    1. Private: Only you will be able to search for and see the performance band.
    2. District: Anyone within the district will be able to search for and see the performance band.
  3. Color: select the color for each performance band level.  Click on the actual color and the color options will become available to choose from.  Note that this will dictate the color bands within the corresponding assessment reports.
  4. Minimum Value: select the range for each corresponding band. For the example below, any student score that falls between 75 and 90 will be shown as green in performance reports.
  5. Label: set the descriptor for each performance band level. This will also be displayed on all corresponding assessment reports.
  6. Mastery: check the box next to the performance band levels that will be considered mastery on this assessment. This will also be displayed on all corresponding assessment reports.
  7. Delete: if you do not want a specific performance band level, click the trash can icon to remove that level from the performance band.
  8. Add a Definition: if you'd like to add an additional performance level band, click this button to add another row level. For example, if you want to have five levels instead of four.
  9. Click on the Save button.

The final step when creating a new performance band is publishing a performance band. You can unpublish a performance band to make changes as long as it has not been applied to an assessment yet. Once a performance band is applied to an assessment, it can no longer be unpublished or modified.
